385( T EORGE CALHOON, Registrar^-^ of Albert County, HopewellCape, N. B., was born in Hopewell,January 2gth, 1814. He is the son ofJohn Calhoon and Rebecca Rand. Mr.Calhoon received his education at thepublic schools of Westmoreland County,after which he assisted his father onthe farm until he was of age, then <strong>com</strong>mencedin the mercantile business andfarming for himself, and continued inbusiness until 1844, when he was appointedRegistrar of Albert County,which office he has since held. In thatyear, he was also appointed a magistratefor the county, but resigned fromactive duty in 1883, although still beinga member of the Board of Magistratesfor the county. He was married, inof Reuben1835, to Devinia, daughterPeck, Esq., of Hopewell, Albert County.His family consists of one son and onedaughter, living. Mr. Calhoon is amember of several temperance societies,and of the first division that was organizedin the county, he being presidentof it,and also a member of the GrandDivision Sons of Temperance. He hasbeen school trustee, and held manymunicipal offices, among which he wassecretary and treasurer of the countyfor many years.25
