362HEAP, Solicitor, etc.,Selkirk, Man., was born February2ist, 1830, at Burnley,JAMESLancashire, England. His were parentsJohn and Mary (Stephenson)Heap, both English. He was educatedat the Burnley Grammar School, andby private tuition. He was then fortwo years with his father in mercantilebusiness, and came to Toronto, Out., in1854, where he entered the law office ofthe late Robert J. Turner, afterwardsstudying with T. A. Hudspeth, Lindsay,and Geo. Brogdin, Port Hope, and<strong>com</strong>pleted his studies with Mr. Hudspeth,and then entered into partnershipwith him, which existed until his death,continued theafter which Mr. Heappractice until 1888, when he removed toManitoba. When in Lindsay he was amember of the town council and alsofor a great many years of the HighSchool Trustee Board. He is at presentSolicitor for the Town of Selkirk, anda number of Loan and Railway <strong>com</strong>panies.In religion, Mr. Heap is aPresbyterian, and in politics, a Con-to the Ma-servative. He also belongssonic Order. He was married, June3Oth, 1864, to Miss Jeannie, daughter ofWalter Colcleugh, Esq., of Flamboro'West, Ont., who died July 4th, 1874.
