336W TON. DANIEL McLEAN, Sher-trict of Manitoba, Portage LaPrairie, Man., was born May 2oth, 1854,in the Township of Aldborough, ElginCounty, Ont. His parents were Johnand Margaret (McCallum) McLean,natives of Argyleshire, Scotland. Mr.McLean has made his own way in theworld. While working on his father'sfarm, he secured a teacher's certificatein 1876, and taught school for about7six 3 ears. In 1883, he removed toManitoba, and settled at Pipe Stone,and in 1884, was elected reeve of thatmunicipality. He was elected on theLiberal ticket, the first representativeof Dennis in the Local House, in 1886,and was returned at the General Electionof 1888. In October, 1889, ne wassworn in as Provincial Secretary, whichHeposition he held until June, 1892.was also head of the Department ofEducation for the Province, from May,1891, to June ist, 1892. He was adefeated candidate for the Legislature,in July, 1892, and was appointed sheriff,October loth, of that year. Mr. McLeanis a member of the I.O.O.F., and aPresbyterian in religion.He was married,May 22nd, 1891, to Miss Lizzie,daughter of Geo. H. Strevil, Esq.
