MEN CANADA. 333,EV.HENRY WIL-LIAMLITTLE,Rector of Sussex,N.B., was born January23rd, 1848, at Torrington,Norfolk, England.His fatherwas head master for fortyyears of the High Schoolthere. Mr. Little receivedhis education from Rev. R.A. Whalley, and at the St.Augustine's College, Canterbury,where he graduated,receiving his diplomaand the special hood grantedby His Grace the Archbishop,to the students whopass their course with honors.He was ordained atWinchester Cathedral in1874, by Rt. Rev. HaroldBrown, D.D., Lord Bishopof Winchester. He immediatelywent to Madagascarin <strong>com</strong>pany with Dr. Cornish,bishop of that island.Reaching there in 1874, hetook charge of the EastCoast, where the climate wasso bad that no Englishclergyman had been ableto continue longer than afew months. He remained there sixyears, organizing 14 stations and builtSt. James Church at Andevoranto, anold Arab slave market. This was thefirst consecrated church in Madagascar,and his congregation there included500 natives, chiefly slaves and slaveholdersand soldiers of the Hova garrison.He has had more than one interviewwith the Prime Minister, andassisted in passing a law for <strong>com</strong>pulsoryeducation, for which he receivedthe thanks of the government and theQueen. In 1879, ^ e returned to England,and after some months spent atOxford, he took charge of the Parish ofCheadle, and then of the Parish ofHealy, Mashani, York. In 1882, hewas called to take part in the greatLondon Mission, when he labored inthe Parish of Regent Square, London,with Rev. E. Steele, as <strong>com</strong>missioner.Settling at Forest Hill, he officiated ascurate of St. Paul's, also assisting inthe Church of St. George's, PerryHe Hill.afterwards acted as curate of theRev. E. Robinson of St. Lawrence,Catford. Having accepted a call toCanada, he reached Fredericton in December,1889, and was inducted as rectorof Sussex, in January, 1890. Mr.Little is the author of several works.
