326 1VLENFRASER, Flour Miller,Morden, Manitoba, was bornSeptember i8th, 1855, at NewGlasgow, N.S. His parents are JamesH. and Ann (Turnbnll) Fraser, bothof Scotch descent. His father was anextensive railway contractor in NovaScotia, and one of the contractors forsections " B " and " 15 " of the C.P.R.in Manitoba. He built the MordenRoller Mill in 1885, and is now livingretired in Morden. After passingthrough the public and Grammarschools, the subject of this sketch attendedthe Wesleyan Academy at Sackville,N.B., and subsequently took a<strong>com</strong>mercial course in Halifax.He then devoted himselfto the furniture businessin New Glasgow fortwo years, and in 1878, visitedManitoba, returning inthe Fall of the same year.The following Spring heremoved permanently tothe North-West, and forsome time was engaged inthe C.P.R. office work, andconducting a supply storeat Rat Portage. Mr. Fraser,sr., subsequently builtthe roller mill at Nelson,Man., and became activelyengaged in its operation.After the Morden Mill wasbuilt, and had been run forsome months in connectionwith the Nelson Mill, in1891, Mr. Fraser rented theMorden Mill from his fatheron his own account, andsubsequently rented theTrehorne Roller Mill, givinga total capacity in thetwo mills of 200 barrelsdaily. In addition to hislarge local trade, Mr. Frasermakes large shipmentsof flour to the Eastern Provinces. Heis a very active Free Mason, being aPast Master of the Morden Lodge, anda P.D.D.G.M. He was one of the foundersof the Morden Masonic Hospital,a most creditable institution, and is aprominent worker in the Y.M.C.A.,being vice-president of the Provincialconvention, and a member of the Provincial<strong>com</strong>mittee. In religion, he is aPresbyterian, and in politics, a Conservative.He was married, July i3th,1887, to Miss Florence, daughter of thelate Benjamin McConnell, lumberman,of Pembroke, Ont., by whom he hastwo sons and two daughters.
