MKN CANADA. 303fc^^^"^[HE LATE EDWARD WILLIS,-*-Postmaster, St. John, N.B., wasborn November 5th, 1835, at Halifax,N.S. His parents were John andDorothy Le Roi Willis. He receivedhis education at the National andGrammar schools, Halifax. The greaterpart of his life was spent in thenewspaper business, at which he wasvery successful, and by means of whichhe was widely known. Mr. Willis,although a self-made man, acquired athoroughly good education, and waspossessed of a keen intelligence, whichresulted from a sound training in practicallife. In conducting a journal, hewas eminently successful, and being aforcible and vigorous writer, was ableto record himself with great ability andclearness. He also took an active partin political matters, and was a memberof the Legislative Assembly for tenyears, namely from 1872 to 1882. Inreligion, he was an Episcopalian, anda member of St. James EpiscopalChurch, St. John, N.B., and held theoffices of Church Warden and Superintendentof the Sabbath School. Hewas married in 1858, to Sarah Adams,daughter of Zechariah and Mary ChapmanAdams. His family consisted offive sons and three daughters.
