Hecame to Canada, in 1784,and settled on a farm inBrant County, which hasremained in the possessionof the family ever since.The mother of our subject,was Priscilla, J. Harris,daughter of the late Rev.John Harris, but now deceased.Mr. Fairchild waseducated at the Mount Plea-Whensant, Out., schools.seventeen years of age, heentered mercantile life, as adry goods clerk at Dundas,where he remained oneyear.
