250 MEN ORON. JOHN CRAWFORD, ex-M.P.P., general merchant, Neepawa,Manitoba, was bornJune 17th, 1856,111 Ashneld Township,Huron County, Ont. His parents,James and Catherine (McGregor) Crawford,settled in Neepawa district, in1877. He received his education in thePort Albert public school, and afterspending six years in a flour mill, atPort Albert, removed to Gladstone, Man.In 1876, he took up land in Neepawadistrict, and carried on an implementbusiness also, until 1883, when he removedto the town, and conducted theimplement, lumber and grain business,until August, 1890, when he opened ageneral store. He was elected to Council,in 1884, and was, for some years,Reeveof Rosedale municipality. At thetime of the outbreak of the North-West Rebellion, he raised a <strong>com</strong>panyof volunteers, which was attached to the95th Battalion, and was ga/etted as captain.He was elected M.P.P. for BeautifulPlains, in 1886 and 1888, but wasdefeated by Mr. Davidson in 1892.Mr. Crawford is a Presbyterian inreligion, and a member of the I.O.O.F.He was married, February 2oth, 1881,to Miss Matilda, daughter of \V. J.Hayden, of Ashneld, Out.
