He is theson of Henry MacMonagle and IsabelPerkins, both of New Brunswick.He received his education atthe schools of Sussex,School, St. John, after which he enteredthe Grammarthe law office of Wedderburn (nowjudge) and MacMonagle, in St. John.Was called to the Bar in February,1871, and sworn in as Barrister thefollowing year. He <strong>com</strong>menced thepractice of law in St. Stephen in 1871,where he has worked up a very largeHe was a mem-and lucrative practice.ber of the Municipal County Councilfor a number of years, and Town Solicitorfor St. Stephen. He joined theMilitary School of Instruction in 1870,and received a second-class certificatefrom the Major of the 78th Highlanders.He has lately devoted a large portion ofhis time to farming, being the ownerof two hay farms in the vicinity of St.Stephen. He was married in April,1877, to Annie J. Mcllroy, of St.Stephen, N. B. His family consists ofthree daughters. He is a member of theLoyal Orange Order, being P.D.G.M.In religion, he is an Episcopalian.
