Hisparents were Thomas Greer, Esq., sonof Geo. Greer, Esq., of Dungannon,Ireland, and Eliza Blackstock, daughterof Rev. M. Blackstock, of Fairmount,Ont. Mr. Greer received his educationat the Peterboro Grammar School,Colborne High School, and entered theUniversity of Toronto in 1861, graduatingwith honors in 1865, andreceiving the degree of M.A. in 1869.He removed to Halifax in 1866, andshortly after, went into the insurancebusiness, which he has made a decidedsuccess. In religion, he is a memberof the Church of England, and in politics,a Conservative. He is also a memberof the Masonic Order, Virgin Lodge,and represents the "" Alliance ScientifiqueSociety of Paris. He is a memberof the Halifax Club, Studly QuoitClub, Royal N.S. Yacht Squadron, etc.
