164 CANADA.BRUNET, manager LaBanque Nationale, Montreal,Que., was born August 24th,1844. He was educated at the MontrealCollege, Montreal. After fillingvarious positions of trust and responsibility,he was, in the year 1870, appointedmanager of the MetropolitanBuilding Society, and so continueduntil 1888. He displayed great abilityin managing the affairs of this institution,and in 1888, was offered theimportant position of manager of LaBanque Nationale, which he accepted,and still continues to discharge theimportant duties of his office, withboth to the bank andgreat satisfaction,to the public. He is greatly interestedin military matters, and took first andsecond certificates in the MilitarySchool, under Lord Russell. He <strong>com</strong>manded,with the rank of captain, a<strong>com</strong>pany in active service in Fredericksburg,after the St. Alban's raid in1865. Mr. Brunet is also a member ofthe Montreal Board of Trade. In reli-he is a Roman Catholic. Hegion,was married to Miss Kliza Chagnon,daughter of Hon. Judge Chagnon,of St. Johns. His family consists ofthree children, two daughters andone son.
