Supreme(-*j^|V> Court, was born at Beaubair'sIsland, Miramichi, August ist, 1829.His father was John Fraser, a native ofInverness, Scotland, and his mother wasthe daughter of Hugh Fraser, son of" Fair Anne," of the Lovat family.Judge Fraser received his education atthe Newcastle Grammar School, and in1845, began the study of law in theoffices of Messrs. Street & Davidson,Newcastle. He was admitted as Attorneyin 1850, called to the Bar twoyears later, and created Q. C. in 1873.He removed to Fredericton in 1851,when Hon. Mr. Street becameAttorney-General. In,Justice Duff, he was appointed to theSupreme Court Bench. Throughout hispolitical career, he held steadfastly to theprinciples of honor, and those who mostwidely differed with his views, respectedthe purity of his motives. In his judicialcapacity, he has sustained his reputation,and ishighly respected for hisability, learning and impartiality. JusticeFraser has been married twice :first, in September, 1867, to Miss Martha,daughter of the late AlexanderCuniming, of Fredericton and; second,in May, 1884, to Miss Jane M. P.,daughter of the late Hon. CharlesFisher, D.C.L., of Fredericton.1865, he was elected one ofthe representatives of York,in the Assembly, on theanti-confederate platform.The Government resignedthe next year, and in theensuing contest, Mr. Fraserwas defeated. In June, 1871,he was appointed a memberof the Legislative Council,and president of the ExecutiveCouncil, but resignedthese positions, in 1872, toaccept the office of ProvincialSecretary in the Kingadministration, being electedby the York County constituents,byWhen acclamation.Hon. Mr. King retiredfrom politics in 1878,Mr. Fraser became Attorney-Generaland Premier ofthe province, holding thatposition until May, 1882,when he resigned to be<strong>com</strong>ea candidate for the DominionHouse, in which contest hewas, however, unsuccessful.In December of the sameyear, on the death of Mr.
