MKN 139WjrUGHARMSTRONG, M.P.P.,for'^J^lWoodlands district, fishVS> exporter, etc., Portage LaPrairie, Manitoba, was bom August5th, 1858, in St. Lawrence County,N.Y. State, U.S.A. His parents Hughand Emily (Farnsworth) Armstrong,came to Canada in 1860, and settled inCarleton County, Out. With the exceptionof one winter in which he attendedthe village school, Mr. Armstrongwas educated by his father, whowas a teacher by profession. AfterIn May, of<strong>com</strong>pleting his education, and teachingschool for some two and one half years,he conducted a general store, at DunrobhijOnt,from 1878 to 1883.the latter year, he removed to Manitoba,and went into business at Poplar Point,and at the same time began the businessof fish exporting, being the first to exportrough fish from Manitoba. Subsequentlyhe sold out his store to hisbrother, and has since devoted hiswhole attention to the fish trade. Hewas elected, by acclamation, M.P.P.,July 23rd, 1892. In politics, he is aConservative, and in religion, is Non-Sectarian. He is a member of the A.O.U.W., and a Royal Arch Mason. On Oct.14th, 1885, he married Mary, daughter ofHy. Younghusband, of Essex Co., Out.
