138yrNTHONY IVAN MADER, M.D.,J^ \ C.M., physician and surgeon,V> Halifax, N.S., was born March4th, 1863, in New Canada, LunenburgHalifax, and was at once appointedsenior house surgeon to the VictoriaGeneral Hospital by <strong>com</strong>petitive examination.After <strong>com</strong>pleting his fullCounty. Dole, LL.D.,of St. John, N.B. He registeredas a medical studentwhile in New Brunswick,and passed the necessaryexamination in Arts at theSt. John Grammar School,and in 1887 entered McGillUniversity. Besides the regularmedical course, hetook Sir William Dawson'scourse in zoology, and also aspecial course in operativesurgery. Among his distinctionsat college, he wona clinical clerkship, underthe professor of clinical medicine,in the wards of theMontreal General Hospital.After graduating from Mc-Gill College, he returned to
