128 ]MKN OR CANADA.THE LATE JOHN LEANDERWICKWIRE, Canning, N.S.,was born at that place, June nth,1832. He was the eldest son of Peterand Eliza (Rockwell) Wickwire, andreceived his education in his nativeways ready to aid in promoting publicenterprises. In religion, Mr. Wickwirehad been brought up a Baptist,and always favored that denomination,although he was not a member of anychurch. In politics, he was an activeLiberal, being a prominent and in-county. At an early age, he engagedin speculating, which he carried on extensively,for many years, with muchsuccess. He was one of the mostthorough and energetic men in thecounty, a man of sound judgment, andclear business foresight, and was al-who knew him. He was widely knownfluential member of that party. Hewas married in November, 1866, toAnnie Alice, daughter of the late wellknownship o\vner, James Lawton, ofSt. John, N.B. His family consistedof two sons and two daughters. Mr.Wickwire died very suddenly on May1 9th, 1891, deeply regretted by allin his section, for his many goodqualities of head and heart, and was aman of honesty and integrity of purpose.
