123YVnLLIAM TEMPLEMAN, nianr\ager of the Daily Times, Victoria,B.C., was born September 28th,1845, a t Pakenham, Lanark County,Out. His parents were William andHelen (Taylor) Templeman, natives ofScotland. He received a <strong>com</strong>mon schooleducation, and then entered the Heraldoffice at Carleton Place, Out., where heserved a four years' apprenticeship tothe printing business. After spendingseveral years in Oswego, N.Y., Chicago,111, and Memphis, Tenn., he returnedto Ontario, and, in partnership with Mr.R. J. Northgraves, established theGazette at Almonte, which he conductedfrom 1867 to 1882. He then sold outhis interest in that paper, and accepted aposition on the Daily 7}'mes, Victoria,B.C., subsequently acquiring a controllinginterest in the paper, and hasbeen managing editor ever since. TheJ^imes, for ten years, was the onlyLiberal paper in British Columbia.In religion, Mr. Templemanis a Presbyterianhe is also a member of the;I.O.O.F., I.O.F. and A.O.U.W. Hewas married, February nth, 1869, toEva, daughter of Joseph Bond, Almonte.Mr. Templeman was an unsuccessfulcandidate for the House of Commons,in the election of March, 1891.
