112ARCHIBALD,iff, Halifax, N.S., was bomAugust 1 6th, 1840, at Musquodoboit,Halifax County, N.S. Hisfather was Matthew Archibald and hismother Jane Grant. The former followedfarm life and died about the year1883. Mr. Archibald received a good<strong>com</strong>mon school education, and then<strong>com</strong>menced life as a farmer and stocktrader, which occupation he followed forten years. In 1871, he was elected torepresent the County of Halifax, andwas again elected in 1874, but was defeatedin 1878. In 1879, he was electedto the County Council, and in 1880 wasand forappointed County Warden, three years was elected by acclamation,to succeed himself as Councillor. Fortwo years, he was Warden of the Countyof Halifax. In 1883, he was appointedby the Government, as Sheriff of HalifaxCounty, which office he now holds.In politics, he is a Liberal, and in religion,a Presbyterian, and an elder in St.Andrew's Church, Halifax. He is alsoa member of the North British Society,and in 1892, was president of the same.Mr. Archibald was married, in 1865, toMiss McLachlan, who is of Scotchdescent. His family consists of eightchildren, seven sons and one daughter.
