CANADA. 10'T\ /TONTAGUE A. B. SMITH,IV IM -D -> Halifax, N.S., was bornV> August loth, 1860, at Charlottetown,P.E.I. His parents are Rev.John S. Smith, clergyman of the Churchof England for thirty-five years in activework, but now retired, and CharlotteBent, who died in 1891. Dr. Smithwas educated at Windsor Academy, andKing's College, Windsor, N.S., wherehe took the " Almon Welsford Prize "for best examination in the first year.From there, he went to New YorkUniversity, Medical Department, wherehe graduated in 1883. He was housesurgeon in Victoria General Hospital,at Halifax, in 1884, for one year, andpracticed for a short time as physicianfor the Albion Coal Mine, Stellartou,N.S., From there, he removed to Dartmouth,where he has remained eightyears (1893). He is a member of theHalifax Branch of the British MedicalAssociation, and other local medical societies,and physician to Halifax Dispensary.He is also clinical instructor inmedicine at the Halifax Medical College.Dr. Smith ismaking rapid progress inthe medical profession, and will, doubtless,attain high rank. In politics,he isa Liberal-Conservative, and in religion,belongs to the Church of England.
