95DOANE McLARREN,manager of the Canada LifeAssurance Company, in theMaritime Provinces, Halifax, N.S., wasborn at Argyle, Yarmouth County,N.S., March 29th, 1827. His paternalgrandfather emigrated from Scotlandwith his parents, settling in New York,from whence, on the outbreak of thewar with Great Britain, he, with otherLoyalists, came to Shelburne, N.S., inwhich and adjoining counties, his descendentschiefly reside. After receivinghis education, Mr. McLarren was engagedin mercantile business until theyear 1868. In 1870, he became connectedwith the Canada Life AssuranceCompany, and has since then devotedhimself exclusively to the interests ofthat Company in the Maritime Provincesand in Newfoundland. Although somewhatadvanced in years, he continuesto give to his company, a very energeticrepresentation, and his long experiencein lifeassurance, has made him nomean authority on such matters. Hehas been twice married :first, to Joanna,daughter of Thos. Coffin, of Barrington,N.S.; and second, to Annie, daughterGeorge Piers, of Halifax, N.S. Hisfamily consists of three sons and twodaughters.
