Interesting Stats of HSSMr. Seddiq AlJasmiHead of Quality & Performance Indicators SectionThe first chart shows the number of outpatient visits,walk-in clinic visits, accident & emergency patient visits, and inpatient admissions for Dubai Hospital (DH), RashidHospital (RH) and Al Wasl Hospital (AWH).Note: Data is aggregated for Jan, Feb and Mar. 2011.Data includes staff clinic visits under all hospitals andThalassemia Center patients under Al Wasl Hospital. However, data does not include Dental clinics and DubaiDiabetes Center. The second chart shows the number of employees in eachcategory (administration, medical, nursing and otherhealthcare providers) in the Human Resources System for,DH, RH and AWH as of 4th April 2011.Note: Staffing levels per category and even patient sharedepend mainly on unique clinical services provided by each ofthe three hospitals.Great Achievement out of Penniless Efforts:TIME is MUSCLEAbout one third of annual medicaladmissions in Rashid hospitalare cardiac patients, majority ofwhich have coronary heart disease(CHD). It happens when there isdiminished blood supply and oxygensupply to the heart, a conditionresponsible for most deaths in theworld today. A WHO document on‘Global Burden of Diseases’ projectsCHD to remain a leading killer disease in the year 2030.Dr. Khalifa Omar MuhammedMD, DHCM, MRCP(UK)Of the CHD spectrum, acute ST-Elevation MyocardialInfarction (STEMI) is a high risk and high volumecondition that requires timely recognition and treatmentto reduce death and complications of heart failure and thecost of life-long treatment. Many health institutions arestill finding it difficult to meet the target guideline timingswhich requires obtaining an ECG and interpreting it within10 minutes, administration of fibrinolysis within 30 minutesand performing angioplasty to a blocked artery within 90minutes of patients’ arrival to Accident Emergency (AE).Following a series of clinical audits in 2006/7, areas ofimprovement were identified and addressed which resultedin great achievement, we are all proud of today (see the chart).Changes included: A triaging nurse immediately walks andpresents the 1st ECG to AE doctor stationed in major (blue)area for interpretation and action. This action saved plentyof time and relieved the frustration of poor communicationwhich is usually the case. Training and privileging AEdoctors to administer fibrinolysis to eligible patients savedeven more time. Creation of a comprehensive ACS (AcuteCoronary Syndrome) package on SAM Lab-order system, and an ACS-tray containing medications, and use of the ACSPathway, user friendly snap-shot treatment algorithm &flow charts facilitated quick treatment references, decisionmaking, documentation and helped us to maintain timeconsciousculture and adherence to the treatment guideline.MinutesImprovement in care of Acute MI patients in Rashid Hospital9080706050403020100D-1st ECG D-B D-N2007 11.96 73.4 40.462008/9 5.04 80 24.112010 4.1 75.8 26.4D= Door, B= Balloon Angioplasty, N= Needle (Fibrinolysis)
