EMC <str<strong>on</strong>g>2007</str<strong>on</strong>g> ADVANCE PROGRAM 5550 TH ANNIVERSARYOF THE IEEE EMC SOCIETYDan Hoolihan, Hoolihan EMC C<strong>on</strong>sulting50th Anniversary Committee ChairThe 50th Anniversary Celebrati<strong>on</strong> of the ElectromagneticCompatibility Society of the IEEE will take place throughout the<str<strong>on</strong>g>2007</str<strong>on</strong>g> IEEE EMC Symposium week in Hawai‘i (8-13 July <str<strong>on</strong>g>2007</str<strong>on</strong>g>).A special exhibit will run in the Exhibit Hall of the Symposiumat the Hawai‘i C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong> Center. This exhibit will have both liveand passive displays of historic test equipment representing the last50 years of Radio Frequency Interference and EMC Engineering technicaldevelopment. The passive equipment display will featureStoddart Receivers that will be explained and illustrated with verbalplacards; there will also be an opportunity to “peek” inside thereceivers and see the vacuum-tube c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong>. The live display willinclude actual dem<strong>on</strong>strati<strong>on</strong>s of NF-105 receivers and similar testequipment devices by a volunteer from the EMC Society of the IEEE.These historical exhibits will run from Tuesday through Thursday ofthe Symposium week.We will also have special events during the week for the originalFounders of the EMC Society. This will include a public sessi<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong>Thursday morning in the Exhibit Hall, where the Founders will sharestories of their experiences in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.Poster displays of Past-Presidents and other past officers of theEMC Society will be <strong>on</strong> public display in the Exhibit Hall of the c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>center. There will also be a power point presentati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> thehistory of the EMC Society that will be narrated live by Jerry Ramie,the originator of the PP presentati<strong>on</strong>.An EMC booklet <strong>on</strong> the history of the EMC Society will be distributedto each attendee of the Symposium.Additi<strong>on</strong>al mini-celebrati<strong>on</strong>s are planned throughout the week tohighlight the 50th Anniversary of the EMC Society.A unique 50th Anniversary Celebrati<strong>on</strong> will be held <strong>on</strong> Friday, 13July, the final day of the EMC <str<strong>on</strong>g>2007</str<strong>on</strong>g> Symposium. It’s a Hawaiianroad trip, with the sights and sounds of beautiful Oahu as your compani<strong>on</strong>!Join us for a scenic drive revealing some of the best sightseeingthe island has to offer. The narrated coach tour includes thegorgeous Pali Cliffs in Nuuanu Valley, where King Kamehamehac<strong>on</strong>quered the island of Oahu. Then it’s <strong>on</strong> through the varied communitiesof Windward Oahu as you make your way to the northernmostpart of the island.A Cocktail Recepti<strong>on</strong> and Lunche<strong>on</strong> h<strong>on</strong>oring the OriginalFounders and Past Presidents of the EMC Society will be served atthe Turtle Bay Resort <strong>on</strong> the Northern Shores of Oahu. Also h<strong>on</strong>oredwill be the Most Influential Papers presented since the founding ofthe EMC Society plus some h<strong>on</strong>orary awards for unique c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>sto the Society.On your return trip to Waikiki, view the world-famous North Shoresurfing beaches at Sunset, Pipeline and Waimea Bay. In colorful c<strong>on</strong>trastto the brilliant blue of the crystalline waters, you’ll also find emeraldoceans of shimmering pineapple and sugar cane fields waving gently inthe breeze. Take a glimpse into the Hawai’i of l<strong>on</strong>g ago as you pass remnantsof old homesteads. Be sure to bring your camera to record the marvelsthat gave Hawai’i its name and reputati<strong>on</strong> as Paradise.This EMC Society 50th Anniversary Celebrati<strong>on</strong> is open to allmembers and acquaintances that register for it.One ticket for the EMC Society 50th Anniversary Celebrati<strong>on</strong>Lunche<strong>on</strong> & Island Tour <strong>on</strong> Friday, 13 July, is included with FullC<strong>on</strong>ference Registrati<strong>on</strong>s.
