134 CHAPTER 13: IMPORTING, EXPORTING, AND PRINTINGYou might want to export items when:• Someone else needs to open the item in an application that requires adifferent file format, such as JPEG for embedding the file in a Webpage.• You want to save the file on a floppy disk.• You want to create a self-viewing PaperPort file and send it tosomeone who doesn’t have PaperPort.The following table describes the formats for exporting items:FormatPaperPort file (.MAX)Windows Bitmap(.BMP)PC Paintbrush (.PCX)Multi-page PCX(.DCX)Joint PhotographicExperts Group (.JPG)Tag Image File Format(.TIF)Portable NetworkGraphics (.PNG)DescriptionA format used in PaperPort for Windows.A format used for displaying and storingWindows images.A format commonly used for paintapplications.A format for multipage PCX files.An international standard for thecompression of digital photographic images.A format that works well for storage andexchange between desktop publishing andgraphic arts applications. The recipient of the file simplydouble-clicks and views the file withoutusing PaperPort.A high-resolution image file format.To export an item:1. In Desktop View, select the item you want to export.You can export both individual items and stacks. To export a pagefrom a stack, unstack the page from the stack and select it.2. From the File menu, choose Export.3. Select the folder where you want to save the item.4. Select the file format from the Save as Type drop-down list.By default, PaperPort uses the file format PaperPort Files (*.MAX).If you export a PaperPort item in any format other than a PaperPort(.MAX) file, annotations in that file cannot be edited, deleted, ormoved. If the annotations are hidden, they are not exported.5. Type the name of the file in the File Name box.Note: If you don’t type a name for the file, PaperPort uses the item’stitle.
