Managing the firmware on your debug hardware unit4.4 Installing a firmware update or patch releaseYou perform the same basic procedure for updating your firmware to a new version or applyinga patch to the current version. However, if you are updating from a previous version of thefirmware, for example from 4.4 to 4.5, you must upgrade to the base version first, then applyany patch related to that version. For example, if you have a DSTREAM unit:1. Update your DSTREAM unit with ARM-RVI-4.5.0-9-base.dstream.2. If a patch file is provided, such as ARM-RVI-4.5.0-12-patch.dstream, apply the patch toyour DSTREAM unit.If you want to restore the firmware to its original state after installing an upgrade, you canreinstall the original firmware file. This file is obtainable from the ARM website.NoteIf you have been running the Log Client utility, then make sure you stop it before performing anupdate. Although the Log Client utility does not prevent the update fromcompleting, it can takelonger to complete.To install an update or patch to the firmware on a debug hardware unit:1. To open the RVI Update utility, select:Start → All Programs → ARM DS-5 → Debug Hardware → Debug HardwareUpdateThe RVI Update utility is displayed.
