He began his career working for KaiserPermanente Medical Center in Vallejo CA,and was in private practice from 1991–1997.He has worked at VA Southern OregonRehabilitation Center and Clinics since 1993.Aaron Severson, O.D., received his Doctorof Optometry degree from The <strong>University</strong> ofCalifornia at Berkeley School of Optometryin 2009. He joined the staff at VA SouthernOregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics inJune 2010.Michael Somogyi, O.D., received hisDoctor of Optometry degree from the<strong>University</strong> of California at Berkeley School ofOptometry in 2007. He has been workingpart-time at VA SORCC since October 2007.Duration of AgreementJuly 1 through June 30 (actual datesmay vary).Number of PositionsOne (1) residency position per program year.Annual SalaryPeriodically adjusted by the Office ofAcademic Affairs VHA. Please contactresidency supervisor for current salaryinformation.HoursRegular clinic hours for the resident will be8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.As with any clinical position, hours ofattendance vary.BenefitsEach resident accrues four (4) hours of annualleave and two (2) hours of sick leave duringeach 2-week pay period. In addition, thereare ten (10) paid Federal holidays duringthe residency year. The resident can alsorequest authorized absence for attendance atcontinuing education activities.va sorcc administration buildingProfessional Liability ProtectionThe U.S. Government accepts responsibilityfor the actions of its employees duringexercise of official duties. VA residents areprotected by the Tort Claim Act in instancesof alleged malpractice resulting fromperformance of their duties in or for theVeterans Health Administration.Health Insurance BenefitsThe resident is provided information abouthealthcare benefits during the VA SORCCorientation. Optional health insurancecoverage is offered to the resident; biweeklypremiums will be deducted if the residentelects to enroll in such insurance. Long-termdisability insurance is not provided.Certificate of CompletionA certificate of completion is awardedupon satisfactory completion of residencyrequirements.Program Goals1To advance the competency, knowledgeand skill level of the resident throughexposure to significant, diverse andchallenging patient encounters.2To improve patient care managementskills in a multidisciplinary health careteam setting.3To enhance the resident’s leadershipand teaching skills and encouragescholarly interests.4Stimulate a commitment to service andlife-long learning by the resident.
