Volunteer Value<strong>Big</strong> <strong>Brothers</strong> <strong>Big</strong> <strong>Sisters</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Colorado</strong> attracted the support <strong>of</strong> over 2,000 volunteers in <strong>2007</strong> who invested 102,088volunteer hours valued at over $1.9 million for the agency. This included 99,939 hours <strong>of</strong> volunteer mentoring in ourprograms. Each one <strong>of</strong> them was carefully recruited, screened, and trained by pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff members who providedongoing guidance and supervision throughout the length <strong>of</strong> the mentoring relationship. Additionally, dozens <strong>of</strong> volunteersserved on boards and committees as well as in long-term and episodic volunteer service positions. These volunteersinvested 2,149 volunteer hours serving the agency.9
<strong>2007</strong> AccomplishmentsSupported 1,985 one-to-one mentoring relationships in metro Denver and <strong>Colorado</strong> Springs with quality mentoringprograms, a 37% increase over 2006. 54% <strong>of</strong> youth served were male and 46% were female.Continued our focus <strong>of</strong> serving children from low-income, single-parent families. Additionally, over a quarter <strong>of</strong>the children we served in <strong>2007</strong> had a parent who was incarcerated and dozens were homeless.LeadershipReceived the highly sought after <strong>Colorado</strong>Biz Top Company Award. <strong>Big</strong> <strong>Brothers</strong> <strong>Big</strong> <strong>Sisters</strong> is the first nonpr<strong>of</strong>itorganization to receive this award which recognizes <strong>Colorado</strong> companies for excellence in business andeconomic enterprise.Expanded volunteer leadership through board member recruitment, the creation <strong>of</strong> a President’s AdvisoryCouncil and the creation <strong>of</strong> an Associate Board comprised <strong>of</strong> emerging community leaders.Strategic VisionDeveloped a ten-year strategic vision to position <strong>Big</strong> <strong>Brothers</strong> <strong>Big</strong> <strong>Sisters</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Colorado</strong> to a successful second century.Launched a number <strong>of</strong> new initiatives to enhance the diversity and inclusiveness <strong>of</strong> ourorganization including a Hispanic Mentoring Initiative with the support <strong>of</strong> <strong>Big</strong> <strong>Brothers</strong> <strong>Big</strong><strong>Sisters</strong> <strong>of</strong> America, a Baby Boomer Volunteer Project in conjunction with the Rose CommunityFoundation’s Boomers Leading Change Initiative, and an agency-wide <strong>Inc</strong>lusiveness Initiativefollowing the Denver Foundation’s <strong>Inc</strong>lusiveness at Work program.10
<strong>2007</strong> AccomplishmentsProgram InnovationTripled our recruitment <strong>of</strong> <strong>Big</strong> <strong>Brothers</strong> through an agency-wide focus on engaging malevolunteers.Created a partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs <strong>of</strong> Metro Denver to provide an Art Buddies mentoringprogram to children at the Johnson Branch.With the oversight <strong>of</strong> a full-time agency trainer, implemented a comprehensive training program to over 1,100new volunteers and <strong>of</strong>fered monthly special-topic sessions for current volunteers.Fund DevelopmentRaised more revenue in <strong>2007</strong> than in any other year or our 90-year history.<strong>Inc</strong>reased revenue by 10% over 2006 and added $234,636 to our operating reserves.Significantly increased both the number <strong>of</strong> corporate and individual donors, andtheir average gift size.Launched multi-faceted media campaign in partnership with Freeway Ford andwith local celebrities Reggie Rivers and Todd Helton that helped us meet ourrecruiting and fundraising goals.11
