<strong>Personal</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Thinking</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> <strong>mapped</strong> <strong>into</strong> <strong>the</strong>Diploma in Health <strong>and</strong> Social Care Level 3<strong>Personal</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Thinking</strong> <strong>Skills</strong>An Advanced Level Apprenticeship framework must specify that an apprentice must achieve<strong>the</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ards of attainment set out in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Personal</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Thinking</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> (PLTS) nationaloutcomes. To achieve <strong>the</strong> six PLTS outcomes <strong>the</strong> apprentice must demonstrate <strong>the</strong> following skills:a. Independent enquiry - apprentices can process <strong>and</strong> evaluate information in <strong>the</strong>ir investigations,planning what to do <strong>and</strong> how to go about it. They take informed <strong>and</strong> well-reasoned decisions,recognising that o<strong>the</strong>rs have different beliefs <strong>and</strong> attitudes;b. Creative thinking – apprentices think creatively by generating <strong>and</strong> exploring ideas, makingoriginal connections. They try different ways to tackle a problem, working with o<strong>the</strong>rs to findimaginative solutions <strong>and</strong> outcomes that are of value;c. Reflective learning – apprentices evaluate <strong>the</strong>ir strengths <strong>and</strong> limitations, setting <strong>the</strong>mselvesrealistic goals with criteria for success. They monitor <strong>the</strong>ir own performance <strong>and</strong> progress, invitingfeedback from o<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>and</strong> making changes to fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>ir learning;d. Team working – apprentices work confidently with o<strong>the</strong>rs, adapting to different contexts <strong>and</strong>taking responsibility for <strong>the</strong>ir own part. They listen to <strong>and</strong> take account of different views. They formcollaborative relationships, resolving issues to reach agreed outcomes;e. Self management – apprentices organise <strong>the</strong>mselves, showing personal responsibility, initiative,creativity <strong>and</strong> enterprise with a commitment to learning <strong>and</strong> self -improvement. They activelyembrace change, responding positively to new priorities, coping with challenges <strong>and</strong> looking foropportunities;f. Effective participation – apprentices actively engage with issues that affect <strong>the</strong>m <strong>and</strong> thosearound <strong>the</strong>m. They play a full part in <strong>the</strong> life of <strong>the</strong>ir school, college, workplace or wider communityby taking responsible action to bring improvements for o<strong>the</strong>rs as well as <strong>the</strong>mselves.An Advanced Level Apprenticeship framework must specify where achievement of <strong>the</strong> PLTS islocated within <strong>the</strong> Apprenticeship framework, ei<strong>the</strong>r within a qualification or elsewhere, <strong>and</strong> howachievement is to be evidenced.The following grid identifies where <strong>the</strong> <strong>Personal</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Thinking</strong> <strong>Skills</strong> cross reference with<strong>the</strong> learning outcomes for <strong>the</strong> Level 3 Diploma in Health <strong>and</strong> Social Care.All PLTS are covered within <strong>the</strong> Diploma.
