Function Keys and OptionsFunctions necessary for restaurant operations may not appear on the default keyboard. Anyor all of the following functions can be located on the keyboard. See "Function KeyAssignment Programming” on page 101 if it is necessary to locate these keys on yourkeyboard.CHECK #The CHECK # key is used to begin a new, or access an existingbalance (hard check) or itemized bill (soft check.) Existing checksare accessed by entering the check track number and pressing theCHECK# key. The Check # key may be set with the followingoptions: A check must be started before items may be entered. The clerk that opens the check has exclusive access. Only one check may be allowed per table. The check # may be automatically assigned by the register. Check track numbers that are entered manually may be set at afixed length of one to nine digits. Check track numbers assignedautomatically will begin with #1.In a drive thru system, simply pressing the PBAL key will recall theoldest open balance (lowest check track #).GUESTUse to enter the count of guests served as part of a guest check. Theentry of a guest count can be enforced when opening a guest check, orfor all transactions.P/BALS<strong>ER</strong>VICETABLEPRINT CHECKTIPUse to enter the amount of an outstanding balance. The P/BAL keywill take the recall function if the drive thru feature is enabled inCHECK # key programming.Use to temporarily finalize Previous Balance or check trackingtransactions. (If you are using a hard check system, you must programthe S<strong>ER</strong>VICE key for the port where the slip printer is connected.)You can enforce the entry of a table number for guest checktransactions, or for all transactions. If you are tracking guest checkbalances, the balance can be recalled either by entering the checknumber or the table number.Use to print a soft check. The check can be printed on an optional (RS-232C) printer, or can be printed on the receipt printer. The PRINTCHECK key can be set to automatically service the check.The TIP key allows a gratuity to be added to a guest check beforepayment. (The TIP key is only used in guest check operations.) Thetip amount is deducted from the Cash-in-Drawer amount for theClerk/Cashier closing the guest check.The TIP key may be programmed as either a percentage or amount.If programmed as a percentage, tax programming defines whetherthe percentage is calculated on the net (taxable = no) amount, or theamount after taxes.68 • Operations <strong>SAM4s</strong> <strong>ER</strong>-<strong>900</strong> Series Operator's & Programming <strong>Manual</strong> v.1.3
