Stock (PLU Stock)Surcharge (Item)Surcharge (Sale)TareEach PLU reports an activity counter. Normally the activity counter increments (adds) and isreset when a PLU Z-report is taken. You can choose to use the PLU activity counter as astock counter. If used as a stock counter, each PLU activity will reduce the count. A separateprogram allows you to add to the stock count or enter a new stock count. Stock counts arenot reset when PLU Z-reports are taken. An item percent surcharge adds a percentage to the price of an item. This addition nets thePLU total.A sale percent surcharge adds a percentage to the entire sale.Tares are container weights. If you are using the scale function, you can preset up to 5different tare weights. The tare can be subtracted automatically when a specific PLU isregistered, or manually inputting the tare number and pressing the TARE key can subtract thetare. Tare #5 can be programmed for entering tare weights manually.Tax Computation by Rate/Tax Computation by TableTax ExemptTax ShiftTenderTraining OperationTransaction NumberIn the simplest method of tax calculation, the register is set with a tax rate (or rates) and thetaxes are computed by a percentage calculation. In some cases, a tax that is entered as apercentage does not follow exactly the tax charts that apply in your area (even if the tax chartis based on a percentage). In these cases, we recommend that you enter your tax using taxtable programming. This method will match tax collection exactly to the break points of yourtax table.Tax exempt is used to exclude the tax from an entire sale.Tax shift keys are used to reverse the tax status of a PLU entry.A tender is the register operation in which the amount of the payment is entered. If the tenderexceeds the amount due, the sale is finalized and change due is displayed.Training operations do not add to PLU or function key totals. This allows an operator topractice making entries without updating sales totals. If you wish to perform trainingoperations, designate one of the clerks for training. You must clear (Z) the register before thetraining clerk can be used. When that clerk is signed on, the register is in “training mode”.See consecutive number.SAM4s ER-900 Series Operator's & Programming Manual v.1.3 Glossary • 239
