Old Essendon torched Ormond on the back of DaveForrest’s seven goals. The Bombers had it won atthe half and kept the pressure on. Early seasonform and other results have conspired against theEssendonians and they won’t play finals, while thesituation is more grievous for the Monders, who faceanother drop.Ormond, for many years the power club of the VAFA,will need to regroup in Division One should they failto defeat Werribee today. Frankly, no-one expectsthat to happen, but stranger deeds than this arepart of folklore. With all the chatter about the Beesthat has established clubs reaching for the Melwaysto find Soldiers’ Reserve – “it’s only once a season, Iguess” – it’s ironic that they, the “new force” on theway up, will shake hands with the “old force” as theyhead up and down different paths.Monash Blues, not quite safe, has Mazenod tocontend with. The Nodders have found their formafter a shaky start and will be in no mood to tinker toomuch with a semi-final a week hence. The Ashes willplay to the wire on this, not wishing to say sayonarajust yet, and be hoping that the team that beat themin last year’s Div 1 GF will do them a favour today.Fitzroy should finish the year with a win against theUnicorns. The Lions haveshown plenty this season, butthere have been some lowpoints too. Premier C can belike this. It has been describedas the Crossroads section, with rich and poor oftencrossing paths and having their situations muddled.AJAX, sitting first or second all year, will take on OldEssendon. Coach Sheehy will have his final chance totry a few new tricks. Not a lot hinges on this result andan upset could be on the cards if experiments fail. TheBombers have some talented players, but so too dothe Jackers. It might be a goalfest if the weather suits. The decider is at Gordon Barnard, where OldCamberwell meets Rupertswood. The prize is a datewith the Nodders next week. The Wellers have provedtighter defensively, but Rupo has the stronger attack. The midfield schemers may well decide the fates ofthese teams, who will be both thinking that a fifthplaced finish is a waste of a season. Then again, thereteams below them that will feel similarly. This is ahard one for the visitors, methinks and I’m pickingthe Wellers.PREMIER C LAST ROUND PREMIER C RESERVERupertswood 2.6 6.11 9.15 14.18 (102)Monash Blues 1.1 8.1 11.3 14.7 (91)GOALS Rupertswood: L.
