This is my favorite time of year, welcoming
yet another fantastic week
of Fringe! This grassroots movement
that started in Edinburgh, Scotland in
1947 has spread across the world,
creating an outlet to celebrate artistic
expression. 2010 marks the SIXTH
year of Fringe in Kansas City. Our
goal is to engage the community in
the heart and soul of human culture
— creativity and artistic expression.
The Fringe allows artists to present
their work in a truly creative and
free environment.
I am so excited to welcome 126 artist
entries from around the world to
Kansas City. The Fringe team has taken
steps to make this year’s festival
more accessible than ever. With new
venues, entertainment for the whole family, and many more shows, Fringe
is more vibrant than ever. This is the “must do” event of the summer.
I want to thank the venues who have opened their doors to us, the production
staff, tech crews, box office volunteers and especially the volunteer
Committee of Operations. This event couldn’t happen without them, nor
could it happen without you. Most of all, I want to thank all the artists.
Without their willingness to participate none of this would happen. And
I know they would like me to thank you, the audience, for giving them a
chance to hear ‘their voice’.
Treat yourself. Take a chance and try something new and unexpected.
Wishing you the best Fringe ever. — Cheryl Kimmi
