Coaches and athletes arealready well into their preparations for anothersuccessful Soke Cup event to ensure that Australia hasthe best team of the highest quality ready for Japan.About The Soke CupThe Soke Cup is held every three year’s and it is an international<strong>Chito</strong>-<strong>Ryu</strong> tournament that is held in honour of the Soke of <strong>Chito</strong>-<strong>Ryu</strong> <strong>Karate</strong> (Dr Tsuyoshi <strong>Chito</strong>se).The tournament bring’s the international <strong>Chito</strong>-<strong>Ryu</strong> communitytogether in a way where respect is paramount, friendships aremade, fun is a must and spirit, hardwork, perseverance aredemonstrated. Most importantly goals are achieved.Whether you win, lose or draw if you make it to the Soke Cup andcompete with all the values of <strong>Chito</strong>-<strong>Ryu</strong>, YOU WIN!The next Soke Cup will be held in Kumamoto, Japan in 2010. DateTo be confirmed but is usually scheduled in July/August. Yes, thisseems an eternity away but in reality will be upon us before weknow it. For those who have participated in a Soke Cup before, theplanning and organising is no small effort and if we want to beprepared for the 2010 Soke Cup with a strong team we must startNOW!Tasha Goulter, Terry Gilgen & Maureen VanderhorSilver Medallists – Team Kata: 2004 Soke CupAustralian TeamThe Soke Cup team for Australia will be open to all <strong>Chito</strong>-<strong>Ryu</strong> students in Australia, and that means YOU!!!However as with everything success <strong>do</strong>esn’t come easy. You will need to have the personal drive andmotivation to train hard individually and work hard as a team to meet the requirements that are asked of you.Your Training CommitmentAt this stage the Australian Selection process is still being determined.Until the selection process is announced you are encouraged to commit toyour training (this component is compulsory for your preparations). Yourconsistent effort will be monitored by your instructors. Below is theexpectation for all Sunshine Coast <strong>Karate</strong> members. Please note thattraining requirements will vary from region to region subject to your weeklytraining schedule and of course your regional instructors.1. Attend weekly squad training sessions + two basic trainingsessions2. Attend all monthly squad sessions3.
