ICKFA Dojo NewsSunshine Coastby Martin Phillips Shihan2008 Sunshine Coast Christmas, Family, Training DayIn our usual end of year tradition, our local association management committee organised a great day of formembers and families that was well attended with around 100 people converging on Cotton Tree Park,Sunday 14th December.The day started in the usual way with training which started in the park with a rotation of various groups leadby senior members of the <strong>do</strong>jo, and ended up in the Maroochy River, with some kumite and practice ofvarious throwing techniques.After training, and a brief swim, "The Emmas" (Emma Woodhouse and Emma Moehead) entertained the kidswith various games and competitions that they had been preparing for several weeks beforehand. While thebig kids got together for our local association AGM. The new committee had several members from theprevious year with a few new faces joining the team: Chairperson- Jim Moehead, Secretary - Helen O'Grady,Treasurer - Debbie Woodhouse, Instructor Representative - Martin Phillips, and General Members - CarmenKitchen and Ben Fleming.Following the AGM we had a free sausage sizzle put on by theassociation with <strong>do</strong>nations from our local butchers whojust happen to be part of the club: North Buderim Butchersand Mick's Meat Barn.Then it was time for a visit from Santa who stopped in to giveout a few small gifts to the kids. Saturday 10th January was beachtraining for seniors at Maroochy<strong>do</strong>re Beach. Unfortunately, there had been a bit of rain in the early hours ofthe morning, so attendance was quite small, but for the few who did make it in, we enjoyed lots of things thatyou just <strong>do</strong>n't get to <strong>do</strong> in the <strong>do</strong>jo that you can only <strong>do</strong> at the beach.River of Knowledge – Autumn <strong>2009</strong> 20
