4.9.4.4.3 However, where a study of geo-technical reports andin<strong>for</strong>mation available from adjacent crossings over the samewaterway (existing highway and railway bridges) indicates thatsubsurface variability is such that boring at the suggested spacingwill be insufficient to adequately define the conditions <strong>for</strong> designpurposes, the Consultants shall review and finalise the bore holelocations in consultation with the MPRDC officers.4.9.4.4.4 Sub-soil investigations will be done as per IRC 78-2000.4.9.4.4.5 The scheme <strong>for</strong> the borings locations and the depth ofboring shall be prepared by the Consultants and submitted toMPRDC <strong>for</strong> approval. These may be finalised in consultation withMPRDC. Each document shall be duly approved/signed byconcerned GM/DM of MPRDC be<strong>for</strong>e submission.4.9.4.4.6 The sub-soil exploration and testing should be carried outthrough the Geo-technical Consultants empanelled by theMORT&H. The soil testing reports shall be in the <strong>for</strong>matprescribed in relevant IRC Codes. The cores obtained from boringshall be submitted to the Offices of respective GeneralManager/<strong>Division</strong>al Managers of MPRDC in a wooden box asrecommended IRC: 78 - 2000.4.9.4.4.7 The payment <strong>for</strong> the sub-soil investigations is inclusive ofper Km rate quoted <strong>for</strong> preparation of DPR. Upon award of theService, the Consultants shall assess and submit the schedule, thescheme <strong>for</strong> sub-soil exploration work including testing <strong>for</strong> bridges,structures and embankments. The Consultants shall adhere to theschedule, the scheme as approved by MPRDC.4.9.4.5 Material Investigations4.9.4.5.1 The Consultants shall identify sources (including use of flyash/slag), quarry sites and borrow areas, undertake field andlaboratory testing of the materials to determine their suitability <strong>for</strong>various components of the work and establish quality and quantityof various construction materials and recommend their use on thebasis of techno-economic principles. The Consultants shallprepare mass haul diagram <strong>for</strong> haulage purposes giving quarrycharts indicating the location of selected borrow areas, quarries andthe respective estimated quantities.4.9.4.5.2 It is to be ensured that no material shall be used from theright-of-way except by way of leveling the ground as requiredfrom the construction point of view, or <strong>for</strong> landscaping andplanting of trees etc. or from the cutting of existing ground <strong>for</strong>obtaining the required <strong>for</strong>mation levels.ADB-IV47
