GSC Sentinel-2 PDGS STBDIssue 1 Revision 2 (draft) - 25.07.2010GMES-GSEG-EOPG-TN-09-0031page 41 of 604 DATA VOLUMES ANALYSIS4.1 AssumptionsThe dataflows of a single satellite have been considered in this analysis. All volumefigures shall be doubled to take into account the dual spacecraft constellation. The volume estimations are based on the following assumptions:- The cloud free Level-1C volume is 1/3 of the total Level-1C volume;- Europe data (land + Mediterranean sea) represents 7.5% of the total amount of imageddata.- All the level 1 volumes are intended in JPEG2000 lossless format (image coded inaverage on 7bits/pixel/band which means compression rate of 2.3)4.2 Reference Scenario for the Volumes AnalysisThe global PDGS is a distributed system, federating several stations and centres withdifferent functions and roles contributing to the overall system performance. For all analysis related to data volumes, the baseline operation scenario described in [RD-02] is used as reference and applied on the four ground stations network defined in [RD-04]composed of:CGS-1: Kiruna in Northern Sweeden; CGS-2: Svalbard (used only for the blind orbits of Kiruna) in Norway; CGS-3: Prince Albert in Northern Canada; CGS-4: Maspalomas in the Canary Islands (Spain); The following figure shows this configuration of the PDGS.ESA UNCLASSIFIED – For Official Use© ESAThe copyright of this document is the property of ESA.
