East RenfrewshireA shared assessment tool, agreed with health partners, is being implemented with the aim ofspeeding up people’s access to services. Its use is being monitored and is being reviewed insummer 2002.A small sensory impairment team is based in a Disability Information Centre, and works incollaboration with local and national voluntary organisations. There are few formal links withhealth services, although more are planned. Links with education focus on future needsassessments and the work of the children with disabilities team. Referrals for an assessmentfor people with a hearing impairment can take up to four months to attract a response. Thereare no specific services for the deaf-blind.A structure has been developed to take forward the Joint Future agenda. This includes a highlevel policy group including elected members and NHS Board representatives; a joint steeringgroup; locality planning groups for both Health Board areas, and client group focused strategyand implementation groups.3. Orders were completed relatively quickly.With its partners in a criminal justice grouping – Renfrewshire and Inverclyde – undertook abest value review of probation, social enquiry reports and community service. Different existinginformation systems limit the availability of consistent information across the grouping anddevelopment of joint approaches has still to be progressed.A Youth Justice Team has been operating since March 2002. Work with sex offenders focuseson harm reduction and managing risk. All reports on sex offenders are prepared on the basis ofjoint assessment with the inter-authority Pathways Project.90
