AngusAlthough the crime rate is below average, the rate of social enquiry reports submitted to courtswas high in 2000-2001, having increased significantly from the previous year. A relatively highproportion of social enquiry reports are submitted to courts by the due date.A high rate of community service orders was made during 2000-2001, the number havingincreased from the previous year. The average length of community service orders completedduring the year was lower than in most other authorities but the time taken to complete themwas long, <strong>and</strong> on average just 2.8 hours were completed per week.The Council is a member of the Tayside criminal justice grouping with Dundee <strong>and</strong> Perth <strong>and</strong>Kinross. It plans to form a single planning <strong>and</strong> performance team. The grouping already deliversthe Tay Project for adult sex offenders jointly: quality assurance of criminal justice services inAngus has included use of balanced scorecards, which are in place for probation, communityservice, courts <strong>and</strong> social enquiry reports.A monthly joint assessment group involving police, children’s <strong>and</strong> criminal justice servicesprovides a forum for sharing information about sex offenders, <strong>and</strong> other potentially dangerousoffenders, of all ages.The Fergus Programme is for men convicted of violent offences against their partner or ex-partner.Evaluation of the programme includes reports from the partner. 70% of orders have beensuccessfully completed.5.
