There were no vacancies for social workers in 1999 or 2000.There are emerging recruitment problems with the field of applicants for some posts, includingmental health. The workforce is stable and quite young. The local emphasis is on retention andstaff development. Training is multi-disciplinary where possible and there are two new trainingposts in home care and childcare. There is an SVQ Centre and the Council is moving towards astructure for post-qualifying awards.174
