Joint action is in progress to implement the recommendations of Learning with Care:• a formal joint assessment package is being piloted in residential units;• social workers, health professionals and teachers are to receive joint training on assessment;• procedures on exclusions have been revised;• a protocol is planned to ensure continued education for looked after and accommodatedchildren who are excluded from school; and• a joint support project has been set up and a “lap-top library” is being established for lookedafter children.The potential is being examined for monitoring progress with care plans through linked systemsand shared data between social work, education and health.A working group is in being to prepare for the new arrangements for care leavers. The structuresfor implementing payments have yet to be finalised, pending central guidance on resourcetransfers.The Children’s Services Integration Project involves education, social work, and health stafftogether with representatives from parents and voluntary organisations and focuses on pre-fiveestablishments, schools, health service locations and community schools.
