FifeThrough a partnership between the Council <strong>and</strong> Fife College, the services of the Woodl<strong>and</strong>sDay Centre are to be relocated to 10 community bases across West Fife, with opportunities forcollege attendance <strong>and</strong> jobs. Local area co-ordinators are to be appointed to work with peoplewith learning disabilities <strong>and</strong> their families within their local communities.Under a joint strategy for mental health services three area redesign teams, involving the Council,health, independent sector providers, users <strong>and</strong> carers, lead the <strong>development</strong> of services. Theysupport GP practices <strong>and</strong> tertiary services, <strong>and</strong> develop co-ordinated local mental health teams.There is a joint training programme in place to support the implementation of the Adults withIncapacity (Scotl<strong>and</strong>) Act 2000.A single shared assessment tool is ready to pilot. The <strong>development</strong> of processes is well underway but ways of integrating specialist inputs have yet to be concluded. An information-sharingprotocol has yet to be completed.A joint working group on sensory impairment with social work, education, health <strong>and</strong> voluntarysector representation is central to taking forward the recommendations of Sensing Progress.Voluntary organisations work alongside social work <strong>and</strong> health services to provide a one-stopshop, “Fife Sensory Impairment Centre”, for people with a sensory impairment. The RNIB, inpartnership with Fife Society for the Blind <strong>and</strong> the Council, have set up a facility within the newcentre for people with a learning disability who have a sensory impairment.Annual multi-disciplinary panels for all children with a sensory loss are led by the educationservice. Social work has commissioned the RNIB pathways unit in the centre to provide 20sessions a week to young people with a learning disability <strong>and</strong> a visual impairment who areleaving school.With its commitment to community planning, the Council is strongly placed to develop the JointFuture agenda. There are already many practical examples of joint working. The Council <strong>and</strong> itshealth partners are working towards the Bottom Line. They have discussed but not yet agreedthe joint management structures <strong>and</strong> joint resourcing pot. They are exploring how to assimilateexisting locality based joint teams into an integrated service management structure, withdevolved budgets <strong>and</strong> providing access to services across the sector at their heart.On single shared assessment, a local tool is ready to pilot.
