The project includesthe Tribal Government Center and administration building,16,000-square-feet in size, which house the Tribal Counciloffices, Tribal Council Chambers, legal and administrative officesand office for support services. The The new complex replacesthe current government building, which is beingdemolished to make way for a road and infrastructure upgradeproject needed to improve access and utility services to thereservation. Photo by Paul Nestor.New Children’s Museum Leadership TeamForges Future DirectionThe new management team of the New Children’s Museumis laying plans for next year’s fifth anniversary celebration andprograms. “Five years is a major milestone and we now have theteam in place that will take us into the future,” said board chairmanMitch Mitchell. Following the appointments of JulianneMarkow as executive director and CEO and Tomoko Kuta asdirector of education and exhibitions, three new senior staffmembers have been added to the management team to help solidifythe organization and spearhead efforts going forward.Markow said that more than 600,000 visitors and 69,000 schoolchildren have enjoyed the museum experience since it was reopenedin 2008. Hanna Berger was named director of developmentfor the museum, bringing more than 10 years ofexperience in the charitable sector to the job. As director ofmarketing and communications, Kerri Fox has more than adecade of experience in the field. Wade Lindenberger, directorof finance and administration, brings more than 20 years of experienceto his position.Student-Run Companies Advance inJunior Achievement CompetitionTwo student-run companies from Westview HighSchool and one from Harmonium have advanced to theJunior Achievement North American competition bybesting 12 other teams at “The Next Big Thing” EntrepreneursShowcase sponsored by Junior Achievement of SanDiego and Imperial Counties. The teams had only sixminutes to showcase their businesses to the judges. WestviewHigh School’s Place~Mate and Local Noise, andHarmonium’s Cast-A-Waste emerged the winners.Place~Mate is an interactive place mat intended forpreschoolers and has multiple uses, winning the first place.Local Noise took home second place for its service thatpromotes bands and sells concert tickets. Winning thethird place and the Ingenuity Award for the most creativeproduct, Cast-A-Waste presented its worm casting productused to enhance the soil. Junior Achievement USAwill announce on June 15 if any of the three teams willprogress to the summit in Washington, D.C. to win a$500 scholarship, a trophy and medal.Westview High School’s winning team.Eight-Building Portfolio Sells for $13.03 MillionThe Waterfall Block, an assortment of eight buildings totaling 58,288 squarefeet in Downtown San Diego, has been sold for $13.03 million to a buyer whowas in a joint venture with Starwood Capital Group. The sale was arranged byMarcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services. The area is bordered bySeventh and Eighth avenues, Broadway and C Street.
