The North West New Territories sewerage scheme win serve an ultimatepopulation of 600,000 people in Tin Shui Wai, Tuen Mun - Yuen Long Corridor andnew development areas in Yuen Long New Town. The sewerage scheme comprisestrunk sewers in Tin Shui Wai, a sewage pumping station at Ha Tsuen with risingmains, a sewage treatment plant at San Wai, an effluent tunnel under Castle Peakand an effluent outfall offshore at Lung Kwu Sheung Tan. These works have beensubstantially completed and the whole scheme was commissioned in February 1993.The main storm water drainage channels for Tin Shui Wai hinterland werecompleted in June 1992. The design of main storm water drainage channels forYuen Long and Kam Tin Stage I, Phases 1 and 2 has been completed. Works forPhase 1 is scheduled to start within 1993. Detailed design for drainage channelsat Ngau Tarn Mei and San Tin has also started. Construction works are expectedto commence in late 1994 and 1995 respectively. The North West New TerritoriesVillage Flood Protection Study has been completed and an implementation programmeis being formulated.6. DESCRIPTION OF PACKAGES6.1 Brief notes on individual packages, outlining progress to date andintended future action, are given below.6.2 Package 1In the 1974 Programme, Package 1 relates to work on which there was acontractual commitment as at 1*8.74. For the sake of consistency, the samepackage numbering has been retained.6.3 Package 2Package 2 in each development area relates to engineering studies. Theprevious studies listed in respect of Lau Fau Shan and Tan Kwai Tsuen have beensuperseded by proposed development contained in the NWNT Base Strategy Studies.6.4 The following brief notes describe the implementation of developmentproposals in :-(i)(ii)(ill)Yuen Long New Town,Tin Shui Wai Development, andNorth Western New Territories Development.7.
