The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 30 January 2013High speed rail will benefitSefton, minister pledgesSEFTON residents will be among those whobenefit from Britain’s first high speed railwaynorth of London, a top Government ministerhas said.Patrick McLoughlin, the Transport Secretary,paid a visit to Liverpool ealier in the month totell the Core Cities group that the High SpeedTwo scheme would bring benefits to the wholeof the north west, including this area, when theroute is introduced in 2026. It follows concernsthat the Core Cities group, which represents agroup of major cities outside London, that theroute would see some areas losing outeconomically.Mr McLoughhin said: “I welcome the supportFire & Rescueplan will helpkeep people inborough safeby David Simisterof the Core Cities group – including Liverpool –and share their desire to see HS2 delivered asquickly as possible. For ticketscall 0151 924 3926.by Stephanie O’ConnorA NEW District CommunitySafety Plan is being devised forSefton by Merseyside Fire &Rescue Service (MF&RS).The plan is being designed to‘keep those who live work andvisit Sefton safe from fire’.MF&RS Sefton District ManagerRob Pritchard is now consultingwith partner agencies across theborough to formulate the planwhich will be implemented for2013/14.And views are being sought fromthe local communities about theactual fire risks and the perceivedfire risks in each area.The process will involve ananalysis of residential, sporting,leisure, commercial andindustrial premises across theborough as well as a review ofwaterways, coastal and wildlandareas.According to the service, theplan will capture the workexpected from MF&RS staffincluding Firefighters,Community Safety officers, whofocus on prevention work, andLegislative (Protection) FireSafety Officers, who concentrateon the protection of premisesfrom fires.They will also be working closelywith partners to reduce risksthrough prevention, educationand enforcement.Partners include MerseysidePolice, Sefton Council,Coastguard, Merseytravel,housing associations, healthorganisations as well as the faithand voluntary sectors.They also hope operationalresponse to incidents will beenhanced through ‘targetedtraining for fire crews’.The eventual plan will go toMerseyside Fire and RescueAuthority before it isimplemented.Group Manager Pritchard said:MF&RS Sefton district managerRob Pritchard“While the Service needs to bepragmatic in the face of a reducedbudget, we welcome new ideas toenhance the first class service theteams in Sefton are delivering toresidents.“We are linking in with partnersand are encouraging views fromlocal people on what they feelshould be included in the plan.
