1. Introduction
The Core Strategy
1.1 The Core Strategy is a strategic Development Plan Document setting out
the overall strategy for development in the district, including a spatial
vision and objectives. It makes strategic allocations in the district for the
major housing growth in the borough, as well as employment areas, retail
expansion and areas of conservation and protection. It sets out in broad
terms the spatial strategy and apportionment of development for the rest
of the district, but does not identify sites for this growth. Once adopted, the
Core Strategy will be part of the Local Development Framework.
Process
1.2 The process of preparing the West Norfolk Core Strategy is summarised
as follows:

Public consultation on the issues and
options was carried out in Jul-Aug
2005. The comments received were
used to inform the preparation of the
Preferred Options draft of the Core
Strategy DPD.
Public consultation on the Preferred
Options was carried out in Oct-Nov
2006. The document was accompanied
by a sustainability appraisal report. The
comments received were used to
inform the joint consultation on the
Core Strategy and Sustainable
Community Strategy (SCS).
Joint public consultation was carried
out in Feb-Mar 2008. The comments
received were used to inform the
drafting of the Regulation 25 version of
the Core Strategy.
Public consultation on the Core
Strategy Regulation 25 document was
carried out in Feb-Apr 2009. A
sustainability appraisal was carried out
on the document and this alongside the
