Example: Single strand chain, design kW = 5 kW (6.7 hp)(1) Assume that the speed of thesmall sprocket is 100 r/min.Judging from the intersecting pointof design kW value of 5 kW or 6.7hp (vertical axis) and the speedvalue of 100 r/min (horizontalaxis), RS80 and a sprocket withbetween 13 and 18 teeth would beappropriate. Therefore, based onthe position of the intersection, wecan see that a 14T sprocket canbe used.(2) Assume that the speed of thesmall sprocket is 300 r/min.Following the same procedureshown in the above example,RS60 and a sprocket with lessthan 13 teeth or RS50 and asprocket with more than 18 teethwould be appropriate. This table isused for tentative selections only. The power ratings tables shouldbe used to confirm the chainsizes.(3) When the chain speed is less than164 ft./min., it is more economicalto select your RS Roller Chain byslow speed selection.(4) Allow for a 20% drop in the powerrating values shown in the designpower ratings chart (Table 6) when1-pitch offset links are used.(5) A 4-pitch offset link is available forSUPER Roller Chain and thepower ratings are the same as inTable 7.
