This infuriated the Muslims who saw this actionas taking the pressure off the British Government and weakening theMovement. Its failure was also brought about when thousands ofMuslims migrated to Afghanistan in a religious protest against theBritish government. The Afghan government refused to allow all therefugees to settle. Many of those who returned to India died on thejourney back or found themselves homeless. Thus Muslim support forthe Khilafat Movement fell away.
