Existingand proposed recreational facilities, managementplans and trails plans are inventoriedon a regional and local level so that the extentto which flood control management alternativescould be used to enhance and connectthese resources can be identified. Regionalpassive recreational resources (existing andplanned) adjacent to the study area include,Lake Pleasant, Hells Canyon Wilderness <strong>Area</strong>,Castle Hot Springs, and linear park/openspace networks (City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peoria</strong>’s Rivers <strong>Master</strong><strong>Plan</strong> (January 1999)) that connect with a trailsystem proposed in the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peoria</strong> Trails<strong>Master</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> along the Agua Fria River. Figure14 displays the recreational regional context <strong>of</strong>the area. Existing local recreational resourcesare characterized by the privately owned CanyonRaceway, Pleasant Valley Airport, andopen space land use proposed in the City <strong>of</strong><strong>Peoria</strong>’s General <strong>Plan</strong>. The City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peoria</strong>’sGeneral <strong>Plan</strong> recommends that the environmentallysensitive areas in the northern region(includes portions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>North</strong> <strong>Peoria</strong> ADMPAs an element <strong>of</strong> the <strong>North</strong> <strong>Peoria</strong> ADMP, anassessment <strong>of</strong> opportunities and limitationsfor integrating multiple-use recreational featuresinto preferred flood control managementalternatives was conducted. Opportunitiesidentified are primarily located along MorganCity Wash in the Morgan City <strong>Area</strong>, UnnamedWashes 1, 2 and 3 in the Big Spring <strong>Area</strong>, andCaterpillar Wash and Twin Buttes Wash in theTwin Buttes <strong>Area</strong>. The location <strong>of</strong> multiple–use recreational facilities along these washcorridors are primarily limited to the 100-yearfloodplain and/or erosion hazard zone andpossible detention/retention facilities, locatedwithin a wash, that may be constructed bydevelopers.
