The Sycamores enter the weekend with a 14-33 overall record and 3-18 in Missouri Valley Conferenceplay while the Purple Aces are 19-26 overall and 10-10 in MVC play. Three Sycamores players hold a battingaverage over .300 on the season led by Junior Shelby Wilson at .376, sophomore Megan Stone at .346 and juniorMorgan Allee at .336. Allee also leads the team in stolen bases with 33 and needs just four more to tie the MVCrecord of 37. As a team the Sycamores need just 11 more stolen bases to tie the MVC team record of 100 in aseason. The Sycamores are currently tied for fifth all time on the MVC stolen bases list with 89, just seven awayfrom fourth. A free live webcast will also be available for all three games online at GoSycamores.com.Last Time OutThe Sycamores are coming off a doubleheader loss at home on Thursday at the hands of the Redbirds of Illinois<strong>State</strong>. The Sycamores fell 6-1 in game one before dropping the second game 5-3. In the second game of thedoubleheader, freshman Paige Schreiner crushed her first career home run over the left field wall to becomethe eighth Sycamore to hit a home run this season and fifth to hit their first career home run this season. JuniorShelby Wilson went 3-6 on the day with a triple and RBI for the Sycamores.

The two teams first met during the 1979 seasonwith the Sycamores winning a pair of games 5-1, 6-5. Last season the Aces won all threegames of the series against the Sycamores in Evansville, winning 4-3 in 10 innings beforedefeating the Sycamores 4-1 and 7-0 to end the season.Scouting The Purple AcesThe Aces enter the weekend with a 19-26 overall record having last seen the field on Tuesdayin a 4-3 loss to Southern Illinois In Carbondale. The Aces are led by Tamara Robey who is thelone Purple Aces player batting over .300 at .338. Robey is also second in the MVC behindMorgan Allee in stolen bases with 29. Inside the circle for the Redbirds, Sarah Patterson leadsthe UE pitching staff with a 2.82 ERA over her 134.0 innings pitched with 119 strikeouts.MVC LeaderboardMany Sycamores are near the top of the MVC leaderboard in multiple statistical categories.Junior Morgan Allee leads the Valley with 33 stolen bases while freshman Alexa Cavin alsoleads all MVC players with 13 sacrifice bunts. As a team, the Sycamores lead the MVC in stolenbases with 89 and sacrifice bunts with 53 and are third in fielding percentage at .964. ISU isalso third in the MVC in walks with 137 and third in hit by pitches with 30. Defensively theSycamores lead the MVC in Fielding double plays with 19, with six more than second.Making National StridesAt the seventh NCAA national softball statistical rankings release on Monday, April 22, theSycamores had multiple players near the top of the national lists. Junior Morgan Allee was11th in Division 1 in stolen bases per game and seventh overall in stolen bases with 33.Freshman Alexa Cavin also ranks 12th in Division1 in sacrifice hits per game with 12. As a team,the Sycamores are ranked 13th nationally in stolen bases per game and have 89 total and are25th in double plays turned per game and have 19 overall.Scoring Those RunnersIn her third season as a Sycamore, junior Shelby Wilson is beginning to get comfortable atthe plate and with an RBI single against UNI, she moved into the Top 10 in career RBI’s at ISUwith 64. Wilson recorded 10 RBI’s her freshman year and 21 during her sophomore campaignbefore hitting 33 so far this season. The junior is just 25 RBI’s away from the ISU record withone year left to play. On the seaosn, Wilson leads the Sycamores with a .376 batting averageand 53 hits.Moving On UpJust 47 games into her Sycamore career, junior Morgan Allee has already written her nameinto the ISU record book in stolen bases. Allee leads the Sycamores with 33 stolen baseson the season holds the record for most stolen bases in a single season at ISU breaking theprevious record of 28, held by Amy Vaira, set in 1994. Despite it being her first season in aSycamore uniform, Allee is now sixth all-time on the ISU career stolen bases list. Allee is alsoseventh in NCAA Div. 1 in stolen bases per game. Theprevious record was set in 1999 when they stole 64. The Sycamores still have eight gamesremaining on their schedule and lead the MVC with a current total of 89. Last season theSycamores stole 53 bases in 53 games played. The Sycamores are also on pace to break theMissouri Valley Conference record of 100 stolen bases in a single season.Turning TwoThis past weekend against Northern Iowa, the <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> softball team broke its thirdschool record of the season, this time in double plays turned. The Sycamores have now turned19 double plays on the season which leads the MVC with six more than second place. TheSycamores are also 24th nationally in double plays.Walk This WayThe Sycamore batters have been extremely patient at the plate so far this season and as ateam have received 137 walks, which ranks second all-time at ISU. Seven Sycamore battershave also recieved double digit walks in senior Halee Myers (14), sophomore Megan Stone(15), freshman Alexa Cavin (15), junior Shelby Wilson (16), sophomore Megan Bunting (12),sophomore Ashley Dickerson (13) and junior Morgan Allee (13). Last season as a team theSycamores recieved 118 walks in 53 games.First Career Home RunsJust past the halfway point in the 2012-13 season, four different Sycamores have hit their firstcareer home run’s. Freshman Abbie Malchow hit her first home run during the finale of theseries against Wichita <strong>State</strong> while junior Morgan Allee hit her first collegiate homer in the firstgame against Missouri <strong>State</strong>. Senior Halee Myers also hit her first home run of her collegiatecareer on Wednesday night in the Sycamores 6-5 win over Illinois. On April 9 against IUPUI,senior Alex Lucas also hit her first home run. Freshman Paige Schriender added her name tothe list on April 25 when she hit her first career homer against Illinois <strong>State</strong>.Using The Long BallSo far this season, the <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> softball team has recorded 25 total home runs and issecond on the ISU Team Records list, 9 away from first. The 25 home runs also is 11 more thanthe Sycamores season total from one year ago. Eight Sycamore players have accounted forISU’s home runs as sophomore Megan Stone leads and junior Shelby Wilson each have eight.Junior Morgan Allee has three home runs including an inside the park home run againstUNI while freshman Abbie Malchow has two. Senior Halee Myers, senior Alex Lucas, seniorMackenzie Connelly and freshman Paige Schreiner each have one. Stone and Wilson’s eighthome runs also put them second on the single season records list, just three behind first andStone’s 10 career home runs rank her fifth all-time at ISU, just two away from fourth.Wearing PitchesSycamore batters have been a target for opposing pitchers while in the batters box. As a team,the Sycamores rank third in the MVC in hit by pitches with 30. That number also ranks first onthe all-time ISU record book. Individually, junior Shelby Wilson ranks fourth in the ISU careerrecord book with 10 hit by pitches and junior Morgan Allee ranks 6th with eight. SophomoreAshley Dickerson and Allee each have been hit eight times this seaso which ranks second onthe ISU single season list, just two behind first. Dickerson is also fifth on the career hit by pitchlist with nine.Small BallThe Sycamores have played small ball through the first part of the season and after 47 games,they lead the Missouri Valley Conference in total sacrifices with 59. Freshman Alexa Cavin leadsthe Sycamores and the Valley with 13 total sacrifices while senior Halee Myers also has eight. Atotal of 11 different Sycamore batters have also recorded a sacrifice so far this season.

Bouman also coachedLindsey Beisser to second team All-MVC honors.Bouman comes to <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> from Iowa Lakes Community College wherehe spent one successful season. His team finished with a 27-12 overall recordand advanced to the Region XI Tournament, winning its first contest.Prior to his stint at Iowa Lakes Community College, Bouman served as the pitching coach atthe <strong>University</strong> of Iowa for three seasons where the Hawkeyes went 109-59 and twice qualifiedfor the NCAA Tournament.Bouman’s success at Iowa came early. In 2008, his first season as pitching coach, the Hawkeyepitchers garnered top-25 national rankings in four categories: seventh nationally in teamearned run average (1.23) and Brittany Weil finished the season ranked 22nd in individualwins (28) and 23rd in earned run average (1.22). Weil was also a four-time Big Ten Pitcher ofthe Week honoree, first-team NFCA all-Mideast Region selection, and second team all-BigTen pick. Current <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong> assistant coach Amanda Zust finished the season ranked14th in hits allowed per seven innings (3.87) and 24th in earned run average (1.24). In hissecond season at Iowa, Bouman once again guided the pitching staff to national recognition.Iowa’s pitchers finished the 2009 season with a 1.38 ERA, which ranked seventh-nationally.In addition, Weil either broke or tied six school records during her senior campaign, and alsotossed five no-hitters, including a perfect game. Bouman guided Weil to Iowa’s first ever NFCANational Player of the Week honor, and she was also named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week fourtimes and went on to earn NFCA second team all-America honors, first team NFCA all-MidwestRegion and first team all-Big Ten honors.Bouman previously served as head coach at South Dakota <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> for six seasonsand is the winningest coach in SDSU school history. Bouman guided nine players to Division IAll-Independent teams, seven players to Division I All-Academic teams, and garnered an ESPNAcademic All-American honoree. During Bouman’s tenure, the Jackrabbits set school recordsfor career home runs, stolen bases, RBI, and sacrifices.Assistant coach Amanda Zust -- 2nd Season (Iowa ‘06)Amanda Zust enters her second season as an assistant coah of the <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>State</strong> softball team working primarily with the pitchers. In her first season withthe Sycamores Zust coached Lindsey Beisser to second team All-MVC honors.Before joining Coach Boaman’s staff at <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>State</strong>, Zust spent a season asa volunteer assistant coach at Drake <strong>University</strong> where she helped lead theBulldogs to a 34-21 record and a second place finish in the MVC.Zust, who graduated in 2010, was a standout pitcher at the <strong>University</strong> of Iowawhere she compiled a 56-27 overall record with 597 strikeouts. The Des Moines native ranks inthe school’s top-10 in several categories, including career games, innings pitched, completegames, wins and strikeouts. In addition, Zust earned Iowa’s Most Improved Player Award in2007 and 2008, took home its Gold Glove Award in 2009 and threw two no-hitters - one in2009 and another 364 days later in 2010. Zust also coached for five years at Des Moines EastHigh School in Des Moines, Iowa.Assistant coach Scott Miller -- 2nd SeasonReturning for his second season on staff as assistant coach of the <strong>Indiana</strong><strong>State</strong> softball program is Scott Miller. Miller serves primarily as a hitting coachfor the Sycamores and coached two players, Megan Stone and Shelby Wilsonto season batting averages over .325.Coach Scott Miller is no stranger to Bouman’s coaching staffs as he haspreviously served as an assitant coach at both South Dakota <strong>State</strong> and IowaLakes CC working primarily with outfielders and hitting. Miller has beenaround the professional fastpitch scene for over 20 years and has competed inseven ISC World Fastpitch Tournaments, earning All-American honors. Miller graduated fromEmporia <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> (KS) and has taught and coached high school athletics for over thirtyyears, winning multiple Nebraska <strong>State</strong> High School Championships.
