Duopath ®LegionellaFor the rapid detection of Legionella species and Legionellapneumophila in water and environmental samples

Duopath ® LegionellaGLISA-Rapid Test (Gold Labelled ImmunoSorbent Assay) for thequalitative simultaneous detection of Legionella spp. and Legionellapneumophila in water and environmental samples.Legionella are gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria, whichare present in nearly all aquatic biotopes of fresh water. They are frequently associated with Protozoans, e.g.amoebae, where they can grow intracellular. In most casesLegionella is present in relatively low numbers in drinkingwater. Thus Legionella usually present no health risk tohumans. However, special environmental conditions, e.g.water temperatures between 30°C and 45°C, longer waterretention times (e.g. cooling towers, containments ofhot water or water pipes which have been unused for a longperiod) promote vigorous growth of these bacteria.Infections caused by Legionella occur via inhalation ofLegionella-contaminated aerosols, e.g. while showering, inswimming-and bathing pools (especially whirlpools), aswell as via air conditioning systems. After inhalation Legionella is able to grow in pulmonarymacrophages causing a serious, life-threatening andatypical Pneumonia, the so called Legionnaires’ Disease. At least 42 different Legionella species are known. It issupposed that not only the well-known species Legionellapneumophila but all species can cause Legionnaires’Disease.Within the microbiological analysis of water samples notonly the presence of Legionella pneumophila must betested but also the genus Legionella should be included. The presence of Legionella in water samples is an indicatorof concerning hygienic conditions in aquatic systems. The drastic increase of outbreaks of Pneumonia caused byLegionella in public buildings demands reliable and rapiddetection methods. Besides the traditional culture methods, immunological techniques are preferred by users due tothe higher sensitivity and specificity.Duopath® Legionella is a reliable, rapid, cost-effectiveimmunological test based on the immune flow principle. It is designed for the simultaneous detection of Legionellaspp. and Legionella pneumophila in water and environmentalsamples in such a way that time-consuming andpersonnel intensive working steps are avoided.Your benefitsReliableFastEase-of-useConvenientSafeEconomicalAs specific as the ELISA method. Provides moreaccurate results.Result in just 20-30 minutes.One-step format avoids working errors during handling.Simply add sample and read off the result.Clear and distinct positive or negative testresults with a built-in positive control.Rapid results save labour and inventory costs. No capital investment required for example forinstrumentation such as automated systems.
