Symposium DescriptionThe purpose of the Pulmonary Hypertension Symposium is to provide an overviewof the practical issues in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of patients withpulmonary hypertension. Recent advances and future directions of medical care will bediscussed in the context of their potential impact and application for clinical practice.Expert speakers will present the recent advances in the context of challenges faced byphysicians and other health care providers caring for these patients. Practical aspectsof patient management will be covered using a case-based discussion format.AudienceThe Symposium is intended for physicians, physician assistants, and nurses withan interest in pulmonary disorders, rheumatologic diseases, and/or cardiovasculardiseases. The case-based approach of the sessions will also make this extremelyrelevant for practitioners in internal medicine and primary care.Patients who suffer from pulmonary hypertension will also find the didactic sessionsto be informative. There will be patient-focused question and answer sessions aboutissues relevant to their concerns such as dietary restrictions, travel, and medicationmanagement. These sessions will offer ample opportunity to clarify issues regardingpatient care.Learning Objectives• Describe advances in the management of pulmonary hypertension;• Determine when to suspect pulmonary hypertension and how to diagnose it;• Explain the current approach to pulmonary hypertension in the presence ofassociated or underlying disease(s);• Create a case-based approach to the practical aspects of pulmonaryhypertension management.
