Seconded by Director Ed Barney. Motion carried unanimously.Approval of Consent AgendaDirector Ed Barney moved th<strong>at</strong> the Board of Educ<strong>at</strong>ion approve the Consent Agenda of June 12, 2012 assubmitted.Superintendent Neu pointed out the new Administr<strong>at</strong>ors for next year are Mr. Miguel Perez <strong>at</strong> <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong>High School as an Assistant Principal, Ms. Christina Spencer will be the new Assistant Principal <strong>at</strong> Dec<strong>at</strong>urHigh School, and Ms. Springy Yamasaki will be the Principal <strong>at</strong> Sequoyah Middle School.Motion was seconded by Director Peterson. Director Peterson asked Ms. McLean about the Capital FacilitiesPlan. Motion carried unanimously.

They are Andrew Kim, Mina Yi, Faith Elder and Emily Cho. Also present was PrincipalSarah Gill, Laura Sarver, and Giselle Blanton.Mr. Davidson next introduced Clara Fuhrman, a musician extraordinaire from <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> High School.She received the Eagles Music Award, a new award from <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> and teacher Dana Coy.Mr. Davidson introduced Lt. Col. Randy Long and Major Barry Jones who introduced Major General GaryMagonigle. He then introduced Cadets Laura Brown, Laura Chamul, Austin Thomas, Nicholas Rollolazo,Isaac Wani from <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> High School. From Todd Beamer High School are Cadets Jeremiah Willis,Coleton Brown-Jones, Ateyla Edwards, Devinn West, D’Andre Rogers, Acacia Ono, Jordan Johnson,Joshua Larson, and Tyler Snyder. Major General Magonigle spoke to the Board, students, parents andothers present.Todd Beamer High School students Eugene Lee, Suhyun Bae, Kenneth Luu, Ki Han, and Paul Kelebu whowon first place <strong>at</strong> the Imagine Tomorrow regional science fair. They presented inform<strong>at</strong>ion on their Fireflyproject.The following students are 2012 WIAA St<strong>at</strong>e Champions in a spring sport and are all from <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong>High School. Mitch Stewart is the 4-A Tennis Singles Champion. Mariyah Vongsaveng is the 4-A Girls 3<strong>00</strong>Hurdles Champion. The 4-A Boys track 4 x 4<strong>00</strong> Relay Champions are Aaron Persinger, Zeke McNeal, J.J.McNeal, and Mike T<strong>at</strong>e.The final introduction was K. W. Williams from Thomas Jefferson High School who was named the Se<strong>at</strong>tleTimes Male Athlete of the Year.TAFA Inform<strong>at</strong>ion ReportPrincipal Paul Tytler upd<strong>at</strong>ed the Board on the TAF Academy. They had their inaugural gradu<strong>at</strong>ion this yearand were recognized as an Intel School of Distinction. He introduced students and staff who gave somepersonal insights into TAF Academy. Other speakers this evening were teachers Andy Stuckey and MargoKinneberg, students Cameron Sharpe and Favour Orji, parent Geneva Sharpe, and Sally McLean.Arts Educ<strong>at</strong>ionMs. Margo Hightower, Principal of Enterprise Elementary, reported on the arts educ<strong>at</strong>ion program in theSt<strong>at</strong>e of Washington called Arts Ed Washington. Enterprise received a 3 year grant from this program.Margo posed inform<strong>at</strong>ion about art in educ<strong>at</strong>ion and how important it is to continue having art in ourschools.<strong>Public</strong> CommentThe following p<strong>at</strong>rons made comment on any item of interest. He thanked theBoard for <strong>at</strong>tending all the gradu<strong>at</strong>ion ceremonies this past weekend. He said it was the best ofgradu<strong>at</strong>ions he has <strong>at</strong>tended. A slide show was shared with pictures taken by David Remmem.School Board CommentsDirector Danny Peterson echoed the Superintendent’s comments on the gradu<strong>at</strong>ions. He thanked Margofor coming this evening and talking about the arts in <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong>. He said Happy Birthday to his son,Brodie, who turned one today. He commented th<strong>at</strong> since this is a business meeting, there is very littlediscussion held during Board <strong>Meeting</strong>s. Most of this is done <strong>at</strong> work/studies held on opposite Tuesdays.Director Ed Barney welcomed Springy to her new job in <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong>. He complimented Margo on herpresent<strong>at</strong>ion and doing art in the schools. Director Barney mentioned the visit to Boeing <strong>at</strong> the plant inFrederickson, WA.Director Claire Wilson also thanked Margo Hightower in speaking about the arts. She said th<strong>at</strong> as a parentin <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> she never lacked places to have convers<strong>at</strong>ion. She said it’s OK to disagree.Vice President Angela Griffin said wh<strong>at</strong> a privilege it was to have Major Gary Magonigle here to present tothe gradu<strong>at</strong>ing JROTC students. She commended on how our district is intentionally increasing ourdiversity in the ranks of administr<strong>at</strong>ors and teachers.Recess to Official <strong>Public</strong> Hearing for the 2012-13 BudgetVice President Griffin recessed the meeting to Official <strong>Public</strong> Hearing and called on Sally McLean.Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, Ms. Sally McLean, presented the 2012-13 budgetrecommend<strong>at</strong>ion in the <strong>Public</strong> Hearing form<strong>at</strong>. She gave a brief overview of legisl<strong>at</strong>ive and congressionalimpacts, a review of the Superintendent’s recommend<strong>at</strong>ion and the first present<strong>at</strong>ion of other fundbudgets such as the Transport<strong>at</strong>ion Vehicle Fund, Associ<strong>at</strong>ed Student Body (ASB) Budget, Debt ServiceFund and the Capital Projects Fund. Ms. McLean said the expected board actions on June 26, 2012 will beto adopt the ASB Constitutional Changes, to adopt a resolution establishing appropri<strong>at</strong>ions for ALL funds,and to set preliminary tax levies for the calendar year 2013.Vice President Angela Griffin reconvened to the regular meeting.Recommend<strong>at</strong>ion to Appoint Architectural FirmMr. Rod Leland, Facilities Director, recommended to the Board to appoint SRG Partnership Inc. of Se<strong>at</strong>tle,WA to provide architectural services for the design and development of replacement facilities for <strong>Federal</strong><strong>Way</strong> High School on the existing site. He also recommended th<strong>at</strong> the Superintendent be authorized tonegoti<strong>at</strong>e the terms and conditions of the contract and associ<strong>at</strong>ed fees for the architectural services to beprovided.Director Barney moved th<strong>at</strong> the Board of Educ<strong>at</strong>ion approve the recommend<strong>at</strong>ion to appoint SRGPartnership Inc. Architectural Firm for the <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> High School Project. Seconded by DirectorPeterson. Motion carried unanimously.Facilities Upd<strong>at</strong>eRod Leland gave upd<strong>at</strong>ed inform<strong>at</strong>ion about where our construction is regarding closure with our newbuildings. Panther Lake has final acceptance. Valhalla does not because King County roads have issueswith the road in the front of the school. Sunnycrest is done but we are waiting for close out documentsfrom the contractor. At Lakeland we are struggling with the contractor and it is a contentious close. At

TheService Center has some small claims and we are waiting. Central Kitchen is under construction.Monitoring: EL-12: Communic<strong>at</strong>ion to the <strong>Public</strong>Superintendent Rob Neu announced to the Board th<strong>at</strong> the survey response was th<strong>at</strong> the District is incompliance with EL-12: Communic<strong>at</strong>ion to the <strong>Public</strong>. He asked the Board to approve of th<strong>at</strong> compliance.Director Peterson moved th<strong>at</strong> the Board of Educ<strong>at</strong>ion approve th<strong>at</strong> EL-12: Communic<strong>at</strong>ion to the <strong>Public</strong> isin compliance. Seconded by Director Barney.
